Charts on the Life, Letters, and Theology of Paul
Title : Charts on the Life, Letters, and Theology of Paul
Author : Lars Kierspel
Publisher: Kregel Academic
Total pages: 284 pages
"This useful contribution by Lars Kierspel provides us with a treasure trove of information on Paul's world, life and ministry, churches, letters, and thought. All of this is condensed into a format of some 111 charts, each covering a different topic related to Paul and his epistles. The charts are arranged into four categories, covering Paul's background and context, his life and ministry, his letters, and finally his theological concepts. Though not completely exhaustive in scope, Kierspel covers the main issues in each category, such as the religious and political context of Paul's world and the setting of each Pauline letter, with brief introductions ("snapshots") of its contents. Current scholarly debates about such things as authorship and interpretation of problem passages are treated thoroughly and in a balanced presentation, with ample bibliographical notes for further investigation. Especially valuable are his treatments of topics of particular current interest and scholarly debate, such as the role of women in Paul's churches, the meaning of his phrase "faith (of) Christ," and the "new perspective" on Paul, to mention but a few."--John Polhill, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

"Life Lessons on Ice is a great tool for your young person to identify the deeper meaning of sports and it's value of participating and competing." Dwight Mullins, Head Coach, Dallas Stars Midget AAA Hockey Club A special note to parents. Youth Hockey, as is any youth sport, is a great way to teach your kids about life and the lessons they will encounter. Take the opportunity to use the game as a teaching tool. Show your kids what good sportsmanship is all about; don't just talk about it. Don't make excuses or place blame on someone else because of a loss. Don't put pressure on your kids to do something that if the truth were known you yourself would find hard to do. Talk to them about how important good character is on and off the ice. And most importantly, just like in real life, tell them that things will not always go the way they planned. Sometimes, you learn more from losing than from winning. A great thing to remember is that even when a sport isn't used to build character, it will definitely reveal it.
Life Lessons of a Harvard Reject
Title : Life Lessons of a Harvard Reject
Author : Peter Bennett
Total pages: 431 pages
Every so often a book comes along that strives for the extraordinary and actually achieves it ... one that far exceeds its already ambitious reach. That book is Life Lessons of a Harvard Reject by Peter Bennett. It starts with a story about the Statue of 3 Lies, which sits in Harvard Yard. Though the name “John Harvard” and founding date of the institution are carved in stone, neither is accurate. Harvard didn’t even found America’s oldest university. The bronze figure itself might as well be Peter Pan because no one knows what Harvard looked like. No records existed when Daniel French, sculptor of the Lincoln Monument, started his “Harvard” commission. Only such a story could be told by a Harvard Reject who, like Warren Buffett, Tom Brokaw and a host of others, was denied admission as is the case with about 94% of all applicants. But Harvard Reject is not a book about sour grapes. Rather, every compelling chapter and sub-chapter motivates and inspires readers to be more than they ever thought they could be. Indeed, while it serves as a self-improvement guide and playbook loaded with advice and supported by hundreds of fascinating facts, anecdotes, and sayings -- all put into historical context -- it counsels readers to always seek and verify their own truth (nullius in verba), even when the supposed truth is etched in stone. Any reader that has enjoyed the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Road less Traveled, The Power of Positive Thinking, How to Win Friends and Influence People, and other self-improvement classics will absolutely admire and adore Life Lessons of a Harvard Reject. Moreover, the teachers in the book include everyone from Jesus Christ to J.C. Penney and from Socrates to The Simpsons. If you at all aspire to be a little better tomorrow than you are today, Life Lessons will show you how to: • React quicker • Change faster • Dream bigger • Focus better • Get healthier • Sell sooner • See farther • Work smarter • Think deeper • Give and risk more The above are just a few of the lessons, but the real value of the book is the enthusiasm for life it generates. It’s edgy, humorous, hysterical, historical, angry at times, reverential and always respectful. Parents, students, teachers, business leaders, coaches, players and anyone else who wants to make an impact in this world will find Life Lessons a constant and abundant source of motivation, inspiration, and wonder. It will help you tear down every wall holding back your success and bash every barrier that has kept you from achieving what you most want from life. Don’t judge Life Lessons by its title or its cover; trust its contents. Inside, you'll find your truth. Let the lessons begin!

I only met Sebastian Peréy in person on one occasion, but that was enough for him to make a lasting and indelible impression. I'll never forget that day. Even though it happened many, many years ago, it still lingers as fresh in my mind as if it were only yesterday. It was a hot, humid September morning in South Carolina in 2007. I had been invited to the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach to participate in a symposium that was hosted by the think tank, Thinking Outside the Boxe, what was supposed to be a gathering of great intellectuals to discuss the world's problems and come up with solutions to the pressing issues of the day. I didn't really know what to expect. I had received an e-mail from Robbie Clinger and Sebastian Peréy of Thinking Outside the Boxe back in early 2006. They wanted to know my thoughts on the Dubai Ports World takeover of P&O. There had been some controversy over an Arab company taking over the UK-based ports operator that controlled five or six container terminals on the east coast of the US. Robbie and Sebastian had found out about Cartwright Industries' shipping operations and, for whatever reason, wanted my opinion on the matter; I gave it to them obligingly. They asked some clever and intelligent questions, and I looked up their website to find out more about their think tank. I remember being impressed by the depth and scope of their work, but I couldn't really find out much about them as individuals. Off and on for the next year, they kept in touch with me, e-mailing me questions or asking for my opinion about certain economic or business matters or geopolitical events. I guess they liked what I had to say or respected my opinion, as controversial as it was at times. It was the spring of 2007 when Robbie and Sebastian first made mention of the Thinking Outside the Boxe Annual Symposium. They presented it to me as a chance to meet with other intelligent folks to discuss the issues of the day and try to come up with feasible solutions. They wanted it to be a real think tank, with multiple perspectives and input from people of all walks of life. I was intrigued, and seeing as though I'd recently written a book set in Myrtle Beach (albeit in the 1940s), Murder at the Ocean Forest, I figured I might as well see what their gathering was all about. I hadn't been to the Dunes Golf & Beach Club before, though I had heard much about it and recalled seeing it on television and in magazines; it hosted the Senior PGA Tour back in the 1990s. I expected it to be like any other country club, stuffy and full of ostentatious people who hadn't really done much in life other than ride their wealthy and powerful parents' coattails and live off of old money, generational wealth. Thus, I was almost convinced Robbie and Sebastian would be of that ilk, but I was pleasantly surprised it was not at all the case for the club or the people. The lavish clubhouse, the hospitable staff, and the $100 million view were astounding, a panorama of the blue Atlantic beyond the sand dunes that separated the Dunes Club from any other private club. The driver pulled the tinted-window Town Car under the porte cochere and opened the door for me. I could smell the salty sea air, which was quite invigorating. I could faintly hear the waves crashing ashore on the other side of the sand dunes, but other than that, there was a peacefulness and serenity that enveloped the place. As I gazed over the vast green lawn leading toward the sand dunes, my mind wandered from my purpose for visiting. I was quickly jolted back to reality by the sound of a young woman's greeting. "Mr. Cartwright?" she said with some authority, holding the double-doors open. I snapped my head in her direction and nodded. "That's right," I said. She smiled and motioned me inside. "Mr. Clinger is expecting you," she said. "I suppose he is," I assured her, perhaps a little too bluntly and coldly. She was very beguiling, but I wasn't one to be fooled by her
